You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. This is a developmental position leading to a WG-10, performing assignments intended to broaden skills and provide practical experience leading to progressively complex assignments to be performed under less supervision. The selectee may be promoted to the next level and leading to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, Certification and performance requirements are met. Selection made at the entry level WG 05 must obtain and maintain within 1 year of appointment a Class IV Boiler Fireman License or equivalent, which limits the certified operator of a boiler plant not exceeding an aggregate of 20MBTU/HR. WG-05:
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element):
Ability to do the work of a Boiler Plant Operator without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform some tasks including Boiler Plant Operator Helper tasks. Perform routine maintenance and repairs to boilers and associated auxiliary equipment e.g. Lubricate moving parts, replace filters, replace or adjust drive belts. Follow oral and written instructions, and established safety rules. Operate a motor vehicle to transport materials to and from job sites. Keep work areas clean and orderly. I work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion.- Failure to meet this screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Frequently works in confined areas in and around boilers and support equipment; e.g. auxiliary and pollution control equipment. Work requires moderate to strenuous physical effort and long periods of walking, kneeling, standing, climbing, bending, and crouching. Frequently lifts and carries boiler parts, equipment, and chemical supplies weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted and occasionally items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Employee normally works indoors on concrete surfaces. Occasionally works outside for short periods. When working outside is subject to prevailing weather conditions. Works on catwalks and ladders. Employee is subject to high temperature, high noise, rotating machinery, soot, dirt, dust, grease, chemicals, oil, fuel, and fumes in the work area. Exposed to toxic effects of refrigerants, scalding hot water, and steam temperatures up to 365 F. Subject to cuts and abrasions from use of tools and equipment and burns from acids, caustics, and contact with pipes and boilers. Must be able to work using/wearing applicable PPE (hearing, eye, fall, respiratory protection, safety shoes, hard hat, gloves, etc
