Ability to do the work of an Maintenance Mechanic Helper without more than normal supervision. Duties include preparing work area by getting tools and supplies, carrying materials, and lifting and holding material in place during installation. Operating simple hand and power tools, clearing work area of debris and kept tools clean and lubricated. Operating motor vehicles and properly secured and transported loads and equipment by trailer. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen OutAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Helper assists in making repairs that may require making installations from ladders, platforms, and scaffolding where parts of systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. This requires him to stoop, stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring uncomfortable positions. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier. Frequently works in confined areas. WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works indoors and outdoors for where they are subject to prevailing weather conditions. Incumbent is subject to high temperatures, constant noise, rotating machinery, soot, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil and fumes in the work area. May be subject to cuts and abrasions from the use of tools and equipment and burns from acids, caustics, hot water, and steam. In addition, may walk on catwalks and ladders. Subject to electrical shocks and burns, cuts and abrasions, abnormal heat and cold, fumes, burns from hot water and steam lines, disagreeable odors and danger of infection.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
