Summary:
Maintains LIS (Laboratory Information System) application databases and associated master files to ensure the integrity of system data/processes and achievement of expected results.
Executes lab test builds by defining, developing, analyzing, testing, modifying, and troubleshooting applications and interfaces to maintain system integrity and functionality.
Provides assistance to end-users in problem identification, troubleshooting, and resolution of high-level data processing problems.
Trains users and maintains required documentation.
Develops database report specifications and produces complex queries/reports.
Works closely with Lab management/staff to effectively modify the assigned databases to meet current and future Lab requirements and to develop and support significant medical device interfaces.
Prepares and maintains existing application and system-specific technical documentation, including charting, instrument interfaces, general lab, testing and user manuals.
Work requires a complex level of knowledge of database design, administration and maintenance, as well as a complex level of knowledge of structured development, testing and implementation of application databases and related interfaces.
Essential Duties:
Defines, develops, analyzes, tests, and modifies complex LIS databases and associated master files to support software application programs.
Ensures timeliness, accuracy and completeness of data in master files and various support tools (ie.
modification logs and system tracking database), verifying database and system(s) integrity.
Designs, prepares and coordinates system data models, definitions, structures, standards, procedures and documentation.
Reviews system change requests to add, modify and/or delete functionality and defines/analyzes the scope of changes.
Builds, adds, modifies and deletes database settings related to general lab work (ie.
registering, ordering, collecting, processing, testing and reporting of lab specimens).
Uses SQL to create and produce reports and queries.
Applies technical knowledge of applications to reports development, including database connectivity, deployment, formulas (e.
g.
formatting, conditional logic, error handling, etc), sub-reports, grouping/sorting, conditional suppression and formatting, database table and view linking, charts/graphs, cross-tab reports and other features.
Provides assistance to end-users in problem identification, troubleshooting, training, and problem resolution.
Provides application assistance to LIS and users in problem identification and resolution relating to test builds and medical device interfaces (MDI), and how those activities impact customers.
Answers questions on general lab, charting and interfaces.
Organizes, prepares, conducts training and educational programs, develops training materials, and maintains documentation of employees trained.
Provides advice, troubleshooting, problem recognition, research, isolation and follow-up in solving high-level data processing problems, including researching issues using system tools and vendor-supplied manuals; reporting findings and resolution of problems to issue initiator; following up to verify issue has been successfully resolved; and determining and coordinating the escalation of issues to appropriate LIS staff for complex issues, or for problems beyond scope of authority Defines, analyzes, develops, tests and maintains databases and applications used between disparate systems and foreign system interfaces related to reference Labs.
Works closely with Lab staff and vendors in the development and support medical device interfaces.
Reviews specifications and analyzes interface requirements between HIS and reference lab systems with those of LIS.
Provides accurate information to project team members pertaining to the interface in order to maintain quality and integrity between systems.
Builds new instrument interfaces between instrument vendor and the LIS, and communicates changes to appropriate lab staff.
Builds, modifies and maintains interface databases to ensure data integrity over the life of the interface Develops relationships with vendors and/or service providers to establish timely and effective lines of communication and to maximize the utilization of systems; works directly with system vendor(s) to test application changes and/or to report and resolve issues; consults with vendors on the development and support of medical device interfaces and general application issues.
Prepares and maintains existing application and system-specific technical documentation, including charting, instrument interfaces, general lab, testing and user manuals.
Maintains accurate documentation of changes to the system(s) and databases.
Updates table and database logs and makes changes in the LIS issue-tracking system.
Monitors for open, unresolved issues and addresses as appropriate.
Participates in the establishment of database standards to be used by all Lab employees with access to databases to ensure the overall integrity of the system Develops and maintains database modification logs that are easy to use and understand.
Assists staff with creating and updating system procedures as changes dictate and in accordance with CAP requirements.
Keeps abreast of changing internal policies/ procedures, functional/legal requirements and evolving technology and forecasts the impact on system applications.
Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications Education/Work Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related healthcare field and four years of recent related work experience that demonstrates the attainment of the requisite job knowledge, skills and abilities, including the modification, testing, maintenance and troubleshooting of databases in a laboratory or other healthcare environment.
Or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
License/Certification:
National Registration as an MT (ASCP) or CLS (NCA) or HEW (HHS) or equivalent is preferred.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
