The Insurance Follow-Up Specialist contributes to the financial viability of the organization by assuring that accounts have been properly billed and reimbursed.
Responsibilities include contacting the appropriate insurance company to secure and expedite payments through the follow-up and appeals resolution processes, and acting as a functional leader or reference source.
This position requires discretion, good judgment in decision-making, ability to work independently and representation of Pulse Heart Institute.
Work situations are varied and require extensive insurance billing, follow-up and appeal knowledge, and strong customer service skills.
This position provides the link in communication between Pulse and the patient, insurance companies/third party payers and the provider of service or departmental staff.
The Insurance Follow-Up Specialist performs these functions at a complex level of implementation, analysis and resolution.
Knowledge of EPIC software preferred.
The job is typically a remote (work from home) position.
Job responsibilities (Essential functions):
1.
Work all accounts in follow-up work queues in Epic 2.
This includes the denial, no response and 277 work queues for all payers a) Call on denials or review in insurance portals b) Send out COB letters to patients or other forms of communication c) Correcting patient registration so claim can be processed correctly d) Appeal claims which includes resolving coding issues.
Working with coding team when needed 3.
Follow up on internal correspondence scanned in Epic or mailed to us a) Medical record requests b) Insurance plan requests 4.
Process paper claims (1500) for all payers at least weekly.
This is done in office, not remotely 5.
Review and filter the other PB WQ's in Epic to find our Pulse claims and transfer to our Pulse WQ's 6.
Maintain patient confidentiality following HIPAA guidelines 7.
Attend monthly billing meetings and huddles.

Attend monthly payer/insurance meeting hosted by MHS 9.
Meet monthly deadlines 10.
Ability to establish effective working relationships 11.
Communicate effectively 12.
Prioritize and follow through on tasks and be detail oriented Requirements:
Knowledge of medical terminology - preferably cardiology ICD 10 and CPT coding Knowledge of medical billing practices Education:
HS Diploma or Equivalent Computer Proficiency:
Basic level of proficiency with - MS suite products Epic eHR experience is preferred

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
