The City of Tacoma seeks candidates for the executive position of Assistant City Manager (ACM). As part of the City Manager's Office, the ACM is a senior level manager who will perform a high order/complexity of work with significant impact on the formulation of policies and procedures for the City.
The ACM has a broad range of administrative, analytical and project management duties. The individual in this position will plan, organize, manage and provide administrative direction and oversight for all functions and activities as assigned by the City Manager. He or she will also foster cooperative working relationships among City departments, with intergovernmental and regulatory agencies, and with various public and private groups.
This individual will exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment, and serve as acting City Manager in the City Manager's absence. This is a new vacancy that has occurred due to the incumbent recently leaving the City to accept a promtional opportunity in another municipality.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate previous success as a strong leader with executive level skills in personnel management, interpersonal communications, strategic planning, finance and budget development, and administration. This individual must have demonstrated skills in workforce development, including significant experience in developing and managing staff talent. This individual must also proactively monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures, while identifying opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications:
Candidates for this position must have a Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field. This individual must also have 10 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in municipal government or public sector management which includes at least five years of administrative or supervisory responsibility at the senior managerial or executive leadership level.

No reference checks will be conducted without receiving candidate permission. The final interview process will be held in early November 2014 unless the recruitment is extended.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
